Living Room Makeover- One Room Challenge Week 7

Wow, it’s hard to believe it’s week 7 already! As I am typing this I have the photographer booked to take photos our living room later this week for the big reveal for Week 8.

One thing that did happen this week that had me super excited is our blinds got installed. I worked with McEvoy Custom Blinds. They are a husband and wife team and they are fabulous to work with. Working with them could not be easier. They come to you so you don’t have to get out of your comfy cozies to go blind shopping.

Goldie and Shea will do a complementary onsite visit. They are super efficient. While Goldie is determining your style and needs - for example, blackout vs light filtering, Shea will measure all your windows. They will email you a quote, you place our order and when your blinds arrive, they return and do the install. Easy peasy!

They back their product with a great warranty. I believe you get what you pay for and blinds are exposed to damaging UV rays and they are being raised and lowered daily. Inadequate sized blinds, non functioning blinds, yellowing blinds or rotten fabric from UV damage really takes away from what could be a beautiful room.

When it came time for me to choose what style of blind I wanted, here were my list of needs/wants:

  1. I wanted roman style blind

  2. I prefer a cordless mechanism

  3. I wanted woven for the texture

  4. Light filtering since privacy isn’t a concern in our living room.

  5. Inside mount as we have lovely window trim that is original to the home.

New blinds on living room window

Can you love blinds?

Because I am in love with them. They were the final piece to this room makeover and I couldn’t be more pleased. I love their texture, so much better than bamboo in my opinion. I also love the color and how well it works with the other elements in the space- wall color, curtain panels, throw pillows and the sofa.

Close up of blinds to show texture

Here’s a close up of them so you can see the texture.

I would describe the color as an oatmeal and texture reminds me of paper mache more than a bamboo wood style.

View of second window in living room with new blinds

Here’s the second window in the space.

On this side of the room, you can see we have more contrast with the charcoal slipcovered armchairs. I love these covers for fall /winter. You can see how nicely the blinds and curtain panels look right now and switching up my slipcovers will be easy with such a neutral color palette.

That’s a wrap on Week 7. Be sure to visit next week for the whole reveal. I’m pretty excited to see the professional photos and share them with you.
