Living Room Makeover- One Room Challenge Week 6
We are getting so close to the end of the One Room Challenge. We are just working on some final touches at this point. One being the window blinds. They are due to arrive this week and fingers crossed the install can happen next week. That will give us time to have the space professionally photographed just in time for week 8!
One of the updates I made to our living room was upgrading the slipcover on our Farlov Sofa.
I love the profile of this sofa as well as the price point for us in the season of life that we are in with teenagers and a gaggle of pets. The Farlov is very similar to the more expensive Pottery Barn York Sofa.
We have owned the sofa for at least six months now and I’m happy to report that the seat and back cushions are not showing any signs of sagging or wear. I do make a point of flipping the back cushions on a regular basis to ensure even wear, but that’s about it.
I love the bench seat vs 3 individual seat cushions cuz nobody wants to sit on the crack. Let’s face it. The bench seat also makes it super comfortable for nap time.
One thing worth mentioning is the Farlov is a deeper sofa at 41.75” deep.
Therefore this sofa may not be for you if you are on the shorter side. Both my husband and I are 5’7” and 5’8” so we can both sit comfortably and the deeper seat is great if you like to curl up with your legs underneath you. Did I mention how comfy this sofa is for naptime? LOL.
The downside to the Farlov is the limited slipcover options available to you from Ikea. That’s where companies like Bemz and Comfort Works come in. I ordered samples from both companies. Initially I totally expected to choose a natural linen because I love the look of the more expensive linen slipcovered sofas.
When the samples arrived, I was definitely drawn to the linen and I loved how it worked with the charcoal covers on the armchairs (which I am keeping for the winter months as I love how cozy the space feels). However, when it came time to order, I decided to go with one of their performance fabrics in Performance Weave Cream from Comfort Works. The fabric is a creamy beige that's perfect for those who prefer light neutrals in their living room. This fabric is stain & liquid-resistant for hassle-free cleaning. It’s kid and pet friendly, great for high traffic and machine washable. This one ticked all my boxes while still giving me that relaxed “natural linen look” I wanted.
I was also pleased with how easy the website was to navigate, from ordering and receiving my samples to placing the order for my slipcover and receiving it was 3 weeks. Shipping was free but full disclosure, I did have to pay $40 duty charge when delivered.
I’ve had the slipcover on the sofa for about 3 weeks now and I am really pleased how well it is holding up. We had our first stain and it lifted so easily. All animals have given the sofa a run for its money and since this is our main family hang out movie watching space, I can honestly say everyone is loving the sofa. I haven’t had to wash it yet but directions say to wash, hang to dry and put back on while damp which is normal practice for me with any slipcover.
All in all, I’m really happy that I decided to upgrade the slipcover on our sofa. As much as I love linen, I went with my gut and chose a performance fabric that gave me the look of linen while holding up to the rigours of our household. I would highly recommend Comfort Works as they were easy to deal with and the turnaround time was pretty quick all things considering. I should also mention this is NOT a sponsored or partnered post. I paid for the slipcover and all opinions are definitely my own.
