Living Room Makeover- One Room Challenge Week 4
This beauty right here is the entire reason behind this living room makeover. That, and the One Room Challenge happened to fall pretty much when we anticipated beginning work on this space was a bonus!
This beauty is Summit Classic LE by Pacific Energy. I chose the ivory porcelain enamel with a nickel trivet, legs and door. I adore this collection of wood stoves and this is our second stove from this series. In our last house, we also had a wood stove.
In our part of the world, it is quite common to heat your home with one of these appliances.
Nothing beats the heat that it throws out. The Pacific Energy line of stoves are incredibly efficient. This stove is capable of heating a home up to 3000 sq/ft! Another benefit is the cost of firewood to heat our home for an entire winter is a lot less than what we would pay for other traditional heating methods- electric, oil, propane, etc. And we have heat in the midst of a power outage which albeit is not as common today but trust me, you don’t want to be without heat during a Nova Scotia blizzard!
When we purchased our home, there was an existing wood stove in the basement. However, we later learned that it was no longer to code, could not be WETT certified and therefore not insurable.
We had the lovely folks of Country Stoves and Sunrooms come out to do an assessment. It was determined the best location for a new wood stove would be our living room.
With this news, I knew we had to choose a stove that was yes efficient but also one that looked good.
Our living room is our main TV area, the only area we can hang out together as a family and it is also right off our front entry.
It also meant we would address that god awful bump out. If you missed that, you can catch up by reading week 1, week 2 and week 3. I also wanted the stove to look intentional, that it had always been in the space. Exposing the brick chimney was a win in this case. It’s original to the home and we love the character it adds to the space and how great it looks with the newly installed vertical shiplap.
The wood stove and install was definitely the splurge in this whole design. I’m not sure splurge is the right term as it’s not a decor item and sure while it is pretty, it is providing a very important function for our home. Let’s just say it is the most expensive item in this entire re-design. Some of the cost being due to the model of stove I chose. Pretty doesn’t always come cheap! LOL. We also needed a brand new chimney liner installed so we could use the existing brick chimney.
For those of you not familiar with using a wood stove to heat your home, I hope this post was able to answer some questions for you. In short, they are efficient and an affordable way to heat your home and they use zero energy resources!
Whether you have a wood stove, a more built-in design, fireplaces appeal to all senses, creating an inviting and cozy atmosphere.
