Designing Light, Love, and Function: A Home for a Single Mom of Two

Creating a home is never just about furniture or paint colors—it's about designing a lifestyle. For our latest project, we had the privilege of transforming a house into a sanctuary for a single mom of two, a powerhouse PR professional juggling career and motherhood. The goal? A home that feels just as functional as it is beautiful. One that reflects her strength, her softness, and everything in between.

Here’s how we brought her vision to life—layer by thoughtful layer.

THE BEFORE

Let There Be Light

At the heart of this design was one key request: light. Natural light, to be exact. We intentionally worked to amplify the home’s brightness by using a soft, neutral palette—think warm whites, pale woods, and breezy linen textures. Strategic use of mirrors helped bounce light throughout the space, while sheer window treatments allowed sunlight to pour in without sacrificing privacy.

We added a larger window to the kitchen, two south facing windows to the living room and two windows to the home office. The two casement windows in the main living room were a game-changer. The entire home now feels fresh, open, and energized—just like our client.

A Dedicated Office That Works as Hard as She Does

Working in PR means early mornings, tight deadlines, and Zoom calls galore. This mom needed a workspace that was both inspiring and incredibly efficient.

We carved out a light-filled room on the main floor and transformed it into a dedicated office. A wall of storage keeps client files and branding materials organized, while a sleek desk setup floating in the space receiving all the natural light from the new windows sparks creative energy. A soft color palette adds a grounded, professional feel—while art and personal touches keep the space authentically hers.

A Cozy Living Room for Connection

Evenings are for reconnecting—and the living room was designed to do just that. We created a cozy, layered space where she and her kids can unwind, talk about their day, or settle in for a movie night.

A plush sectional with deep seating invites everyone to pile on, while soft throws and tactile cushions make the space feel warm and welcoming. Built-in cabinets flanking the newly made over fireplace holds books, family photos, and a few treasured keepsakes—because a home should tell a story. The result is a room that encourages laughter, snuggles, and moments that matter.

A Bedroom Retreat Worthy of a Fashionista

Every mom deserves a space to escape to—a place to rest, recharge, and reconnect with herself.

Her principal bedroom was designed to feel like a boutique hotel suite. We layered soft textures, muted tones, and luxe materials to create a restful atmosphere. Think layered bed linens, wall sconces, and blackout drapes for early nights or late mornings.

But the true showstopper? The walk-in dressing room. Complete with built-in cabinetry, display shelving for accessories, and a statement chandelier—it’s a dream space where fashion meets function. Whether she’s preparing for a big pitch or a night out with friends, everything she needs is beautifully organized and easy to access.

Final Thoughts

This project was about more than square footage or style—it was about building a home that supports a woman who does it all. From career moves to cuddle time, this home is ready to grow with her and her family.

Because at the end of the day, the best kind of home isn’t just one that looks good. It’s one that feels right. And this one? Feels just like her.
