How to bring spring into your home
After what feels like the longest winter ever, spring has arrived! Lighter days of spring are here, the sun’s rays can be felt upon your skin and the birds are singing and we are more than ready to bring the loveliness of the season into our homes. And the good news is, there are simple things you can do to welcome the spring season into your home. I’m going to share some of my favorite ways to welcome spring into my home:
Our homes are working harder than ever in the past year becoming a hub of activity for the whole family and we are all ready to embrace the change of the new season. Spring is the perfect time to create a sense of calm and serenity with layers of soothing shades in calming tones. I’ve always enjoyed a neutral color palette and fresh spring sunlight really highlights those lighter shades I’ve used throughout my own home (walls are Sherwin Williams Repose Gray). They give a sense of space and openness that are soothing after a busy day. I shared my signature color palette a few weeks ago that is available here as a FREE download.
Our dining room is my favorite room in the house. We are lucky to have garden doors that open out onto the back garden and I live for the warmer days of summer where we can open these doors and extend our living space. But for now, I love that we can enjoy spring in garden from inside too.
Using natural textures likes sheepskins (mine are faux) on the chairs adds instant comfort and have an irresistible tactile quality that encourages you to sit down and linger awhile. The hyacinth chargers and wood wreath add texture.
Flowers and plants are always a great addition to any space to help bring the cheeriness of spring into your home. I love tulips and you can easily pick these up at your local grocery store. I love to use vintage jugs, bottles and jars as the vessel to hold my fresh flowers. A pretty shamrock plant adds that touch of greenery to the space. These plants are so easy to take care of and great for anyone who doesn’t have a green thumb. You can read more about decorating with house plants here.
To complete my spring space, I recently added this rug in greys, creams and blues that adds some pattern and softness underfoot. Although spring brings with it some sunshine, the temperatures can still be quite chilly so I like to layer up with light colored rugs. Not only do they add to the airy feel I’m after in my spaces but it’s amazing the difference they make to the warmth of your home too. They really help make this space the perfect spot to pause for a moment or two- preferably with a large cup of tea in hand.
