Living Room Makeover- One Room Challenge Week 1
Sooooo…..I did a thing. I returned from our camping trip in mid August to plunk myself down in front of the computer to sign up as a guest participant of the One Room Challenge.
For those of you asking, “What the heck is the One Room Challenge?”
Well the One Room Challenge®, currently in its twentieth season, is a widely anticipated biannual event every spring and fall. To date, more than 5,400 rooms have been transformed through the One Room Challenge®. The event, and many of the spaces, have been recognized and featured. Every Wednesday, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over six (8 during Covid) weekly posts which I will be sharing both on my blog and my social media pages.
My husband, Kenton and I both planned on working together on this transformation because we decided earlier in the summer to have a new wood stove installed in this room. After an onsite assessment by the company who will be doing the install (wood stoves must be installed by a WETT certified professional) it was determined that the best location for it would be the living room. With this information, both Kenton and I knew that we wanted the wood stove to look like it had always been in the space and therefore wanted the design of the room to look intentional.
Let’s chat about the living room transformation for a minute.
Here’s what it looked like in the listing photos. (For those of you new around here, we just moved into this home this past June.)
And here’s what it looks like currently….even though we knew we would be tackling this space come fall, I did break out the paint brush the first rainy weekend after we moved in because I could not live with those darker walls. This room only gets evening sun so it can be pretty dark during most of the day.
Let’s talk about our plans for this makeover and how we will incorporate the wood stove into this space.
First, here’s some inspiration. I love the idea of adding in some layers and textures using natural fabrics like wools and linens.
And here are the 3D renders I created of our space to give us a visual and general idea of how the pieces we are considering will all come together.
I can’t wait to see what our featured designers are coming up with and to also cheer on my fellow participants over on the ORC Blog. !
