How to Window Treatment Guide

Tips

Hang curtains at least 1/2 the distance between the window and the ceiling, higher if possible.

• The bottom of the curtain should "kiss" the floor for a clean look. (I like a 1/4") I reserve the puddling effect for bedrooms only.

• Do not use too narrow of a rod so that the curtains stack in front of the window.

• Curtain panels should go all the way to the floor. Do not hang curtains where they stop at the sill.

• Use a curtain rod that is wide enough so that when the curtains are open, they are not in the way of the glass.

• Do not hang curtains inside or on the window frame. If there isn't room above the frame to hang a curtain rod, it's better to use blinds/shades.

• Curtains should still have fullness to them when fully closed. As a rule of thumb, the total width of the curtains should be 2-2.5 times the window width.

• Do not use curtain panels that lay flat when fully closed, curtains should have "ripples" when closed.
