Homemade Potpourri for the Holidays

This homemade potpourri for the holidays is full of favorite scents of the season. Simply simmering cloves, cinnamon and citrus fruits on low will fill your home with comfort.

Homemade potpourri is the perfect recipe to have your home smell like the holidays! It is a much healthier alternative to candles and/or air fresheners.

There aren’t many things more comforting than the smells of the holidays in your home. This homemade potpourri includes favorite scents of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, cranberries, lemons and oranges.

The key is the cloves and oranges in my opinion.

This time of year, I like to buy fresh cranberries and freeze them. I also like to buy the bulk bag of whole cloves and cinnamon sticks.

The best part? This homemade potpourri is so very simple to make! Your home will be filled with amazing smells all day long.

I like to simmer ours on our wood stove since it came with a handy trivet. :) Simmer pot recipes are an inexpensive way to fragrance your home naturally while humidifying the dry winter air.

DIY Christmas gift in a jar

Not only do I love to have a holiday scented simmer pot on the wood stove, but I love to give out potpourri as gifts.

Simply fill a small mason jar with all the dry ingredients and attach a pretty ribbon. Then add a small label with the directions to pour into a pot, add water, and simmer on the low on the stovetop.

It is a simple inexpensive homemade gift that gives the delicious smell of Christmas.
