My Top 10 Favorite Benjamin Moore White Paint Colors
Ahhh, the Holy Grail of Home Design- the perfect white paint color. Given that no two spaces are alike, lighting, moods, and personal preferences all vary, there are many factors to be considered—and also many right answers.
Let's face it. It's simply hard to choose!
I want to make it a bit easier on you and give you some of my personal favorites that I keep coming back to over and over again; focusing on Benjamin Moore options.
Three things to consider when shopping for that perfect white:
1. White paints come with bluish, reddish, yellowish, and even greenish undertones. To really determine the undertone of each white, hold the samples against a sheet of white paper. The complexity of each color will show.
2. The amount of natural and artificial light in the room impacts the tone of the walls. A white paint sample will look different in north facing rooms than in south facing.
3. Before selecting a paint shade, size up the palette of everything that will be in the space. Are the colors warm? If you have mostly warm tones, then you will want to consider a warm tone white (undertones of pink, orange, red, yellow. If they’re cool, consider cool-toned whites (with undertones of blue, purple, or green).
So when visiting the paint store, choose several whites you like.
Take what you’ve learned about the furnishings and light in your room and choose a few whites.
A pure white will read more modern than a white with some color in the mix.
The best whites aren’t really white at all but rather have some undertone to them.
If you’re still struggling, err on the side of caution and choose a “neutral” white; one that doesn’t read either warm or cool.
Put your favorite shades to the test.
I always recommend taking the time to apply some samples to your walls throughout the space to see how the white tones themselves will change throughout the day! The same color will appear differently on different walls in the same room depending on the amount of light on that particular wall. Take note of the paint during the day and evening, in natural light and artificial light.
My favorite top 10 whites are colors that I have been using over and over again as a designer for the past 14 years. I hope my cheat sheet helps you find your perfect white.
