10 budget friendly ways to refresh your home for spring

With our Spring Refresh your Home Challenge kicking off on Monday, February 28, I wanted to share some ways I like to freshen up my home after a long winter that are also easy on the pocketbook. While it’s always so fun to do the big projects, like remodel or get nice new furniture for your home, truly loving your home for the long haul is mostly about enjoying the little things that are free or budget friendly! This is the kind of stuff I do around my own home more than anything else to keep myself inspired and content right where I am. Let’s face it, we can’t always be in a continuous cycle of remodelling and making those big purchases. I also find making these smaller updates and tweaks can be so rewarding and spark alot of joy.

Here are 10 easy and affordable ways to refresh your home for spring!

  1. Bring a burst of spring to the entry.

Add some spring blooms to your entry. Tulips are my my go to this time of year. Take things a step further and Get creative with unique ways to show off spring blooms! I am also trying my hand at force blooming some forsythia branches that a friend gave me. Once they are finished blooming, I’ll plant them in our garden. Use what you have around the house to punch up the spring colors in your entry!

2. Decorate your mantel

Use what you have! Say goodbye to winter and then gather up a stack of pretty books from around the house in colors you like, display a favorite spring-inspired collection, put a bouquet in a vase or frame a favorite family photo.

3. Get into a springy mood and rearrange some shelves.

Sometimes simply moving things around a bit will get you inspired! Try a new arrangement on shelves or console tables. I added this peel and stick wallpaper to the back of my hutch last spring and I just love it. I added in some plants and spring like tones and this corner now brings me so much joy.

4. Set a pretty table

You know, that table covered in clutter doesn’t inspire you, right? Clear off the table, wipe it down and make it pretty with simple spring table settings!

I love just switching out a few accessories to bring in a new mood. Mixing and matching what I already have with a few new little goodies to make a room feel brand new again is one of life’s little joys!

5. Shop at a flea market.

Go on a treasure hunt for an affordable second hand find. Bring it home, mix things up, rearrange, try things in a new place.

Everything in this corner of our living room is thrifted from the table, to the artwork, lamp and jug. The plant was a gift from a friend, the book was a gift from my husband and the rope from inside the jug is from the dollar store.

6. Accessorize with Plants

Adding plants to your spaces is so therapeutic. I recently added this old ladder that I found in a barn to our sunroom and placed various house plants on the rungs. Ivy, Pilea, Pothos, Shamrocks are easy plants to grow and take care of in my opinion.

7. Create a gallery wall or change up some artwork and photos of an existing gallery wall.

I added this small gallery wall to our stairwell. I love swapping out some of the pieces with the seasons.

8. Freshen up your bedroom

Add a new pattern or color to liven up your bedroom. Adding a couple of new throw pillows and a throw to the foot of your bed can be just the thing you need to bring in a that bit of spring to your space.

9. Spray paint something

Look around your garage or closets and find a fun accessory that just needs a little love. Candlesticks, small statues, even small toy animals! Spray paint them white, or gold! I sprayed the base of this light fixture in my son’s room gold and I love how it works with the darker blue walls.

10. Clean out a drawer and make it pretty inside.

Because why be sad when you open a drawer? I have often painted the inside of a drawer on a piece I refinished for an unexpected pop of color. I also like to use left over wallpaper to line a drawer. During the design challenge in January, I picked up some drawer organizers from our local dollar store and reorganized my desk drawer. It makes me smile every time I open it,
